Golfsmith Europe get the Call to Lecture - to the English Golf Union Elite and A Squad players on golf club technology and the benefits for playing Custom Fitted golf clubs. These two squads represent the cream of tomorrows top players and they know that every scrap of benefit you can get into your golf game is vitally important to playing your best on every round you play. A session on shaft technology and some work on the practice range on custom fit help all to improve.

Custom Clubfitting Schools – the famous Golfsmith Europe clubmaking and custom fitting schools start with a full house. The ever popular training schools run through Autumn to Spring and the first September school was sold out to budding clubmakers and custom-fit believers. As always every aspect of golf club assembly and custom-fit was covered by the combinations of classroom, hands-on workshop and golf range sessions. All students managed to qualify and received their special Golfsmith Clubmakers Diploma.

New Driver Selling Well – the new Snake Eyes 653D 2006 driver sales exceeds expectations on recent model launch. Latest in the successful 600 model line, the 653D incorporates so much high impact technology – giving greater distance through it’s Reactive Cup Face Technology and multi-sole adjustable weighting system. In simple terms 440cc head has a thicker engineered bottom face and thinner dimension on the top portion. This unique design allows for a larger contact area in the “power point” of most drivers and raises ball velocity at impact without increasing spin rate. Increasing ball velocity increases distance, whilst too much spin will lose distance. The head also houses a three port weighting system that enables players to adjust the Moment of Inertia of the head by customising the screw weighting system, therefore changing ball directional flight, fade to draw type benefit, great news!

Snake Eyes in Safe Hands – new recruit to playing Snake Eyes 600 range is former Liverpool Goal Keeper Bruce Grobbelaar. Long time player of Snake Eyes - Bruce came in for a personal custom fitting for his new clubs to replace his aging set. A really talented golfer off 2 handicap, Bruce has his eyes set on getting down to scratch or better and we wish his well with his new 600 Snake Eyes.

Golfsmith Twin Tune – adjustable weighting in clubheads is the latest way of customising your ball flight. Take lessons – practice hours a day, or simply adjust the weighting in your clubhead, which can help stop your slice or hook in one easy step. The Twin Tune has an easy to adjust weighting system in the bottom of the head that enables you to customise the head by moving the 2 to 7 gram weights between to two ports. Heavier weights in the heel of the club helps stop slices, weighting to the toe helps stop a hook.

Some More Technical Talk to Finish With – with so many manufacturers now selling clubs with movable weighting, its an interesting subject to cover. Why buy clubs with moveable weighting – simply! they will help players with a regular shot defect by adjusting weighting around the design of a golf club to change the “Centre of Gravity and the “Moment of Inertia”. Adjusting the centre of gravity by placing more weight further back in the head will make the head and shaft perform differently - making the ball fly higher, taking weight away and moving it forward and up the clubface will have the reverse effect. Lowering or raising the C of G mostly effects shaft performance-giving changes to ball trajectory and flight. Moment of Inertia on the other hand is maybe a more complicated story and an old story in many ways as golf club manufacturers have been using weight distribution within the clubhead to effect different directional ball flight. More weight moved to the heel of the clubhead increases the centrifugal force making the face want to turn past the hosel and shaft of the club, therefore closing the clubface more at impact and reducing slice. More weight moved to the toe end of a club has the reverse effect, therefore reducing a hook shot.
